back...My Server - no cloud any more Nov 2016
While I hosted my software and data on a rented virtual machine the last years, this month I decided move out of the cloud and have my own server at home with me. Basically I see no advantage of a hosted server, at least not for me.
So what do I have now?
- Skylake Celeron processor, dual core, 2.800 MHz
- Fujitsu D3400 mainboard
- 8GB RAM and 64GB SSD
- very low power consumption: 6 Watt (!) without load and only 18 Watt under heavy load.
- no noise at all, no fan, no mechanical hard drive
- price of all components around 250€
- Manjaro Linux - simple and always up to date (rolling releases)
The whole project was inspired by Heise.
